The Ten Commandments

English Version

And God spake all these words saying: I am the Lord thy God, which hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

I. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

II. Thou shalt not make unto thyself any graven image, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor serve them; for I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

III. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless, that taketh his name in vain.

IV. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy; six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God; in it thou shalt do no manner of work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

V. Honor thy father and they mother, that thy days may be long in the land which the Lord they God giveth thee.

VI. Thou shalt not kill.

VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

VIII. Thou shalt not steal.

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

X. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.”

دس احکام

خدا نے یہ سب باتیں فرمائیں کہ خداوند تیرا خدا جو تجھے ملک مصر اور غلامی کے گھر سے نکال لایا میں ہوں۔
پہلا حکم۔ میرے حضور تو غیرمعبودوں کو نہ ماننا۔
دوسرا حکم۔ تو اپنے لئے کوئی تراشی ہوئی مورت نہ بنانا۔ نہ کسی چیز کی صورت بنانا جو اُوپرآسمان میں یا نیچے زمین پر یا زمین کے نیچے پانی میں ہے ۔تواُن کے آگے سجدہ نہ کرنا اور نہ اُن کی عبادت کرناکیونکہ میں خداوند تیرا خدا غیور خدا ہوں اور جو مجھ سے عداوت رکھتے ہیں اُن کی اولاد کو تیسری اور چوتھی پشت تک باپ دادا کی بدکاری کی سزا دیتاہوں۔ اور ہزاروں پر جو مجھ سے محبت رکھتے اور میرے حکموں کو مانتے ہیں رحم کرتا ہوں۔
تیسرا حکم۔ تو خداوند اپنے خدا کا نام بے فائدہ نہ لینا کیونکہ جو اُس کا نام بے فائدہ لیتا ہے خداوند اُسے بے گناہ نہ ٹھہرائے گا۔
چوتھا حکم۔ یاد کرکے تو سبت کا دن پاک ماننا۔ چھ دن تک تو محنت کرکے اپنا سارا کام کاج کرنا ۔لیکن ساتواںدن خداوند تیرے خدا کا سبت ہےاُس میں نہ تو کوئی کام کرے نہ تیرا بیٹا نہ تیری بیٹی نہ تیرا غلام نہ تیری لونڈی نہ تیرا چوپایہ نہ کوئی مسافر جو تیرے ہاں تیرے پھاٹکوں کے اندر ہو۔ کیونکہ خداوند نے چھ دن میں آسمان اور زمین اور سمندر اور جو کچھ اُن میں ہے وہ سب بنایا اور ساتویں دن آرام کیا۔ اِس لئے خداوند نے سبت کے دن کو برکت دی اور اُسے مقدس ٹھہرایا۔
پانچواں حکم۔ تُو اپنے باپ اور اپنی ماں کی عزت کرنا تاکہ تیری عمراُس ملک میں جو خداوند تیرا خدا تجھے دیتا ہے دراز ہو۔
چھٹا حکم۔ تو خون نہ کرنا۔
ساتواں حکم۔ تو زِنا نہ کرنا۔
آٹھواں حکم۔ تو چوری نہ کرنا۔
نواں حکم۔ تُو اپنے پڑوسی کے خلاف جھوٹی گواہی نہ دینا۔
دسواں حکم۔ تو اپنے پڑوسی کے گھر کا لالچ نہ کرنا۔ تُو اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی کا لالچ نہ کرنا اور نہ اُس کے غلام اور اُس کی لونڈی اور اُس کے بیل اور اُس کے گدھے کا اور نہ اپنے پڑوسی کی کسی اور چیز کا لالچ کرنا۔
